Helmut Wilderer, a successful restaurateur from Baden, emigrated from Germany to South Africa in 1994 with the goal of producing first-class spirits. After taking numerous courses in Germany and Austria, he opened his distillery near Stellenbosch in 1995. As a newly qualified master distiller, he was the first in South Africa to receive a distilling license for grappa and eau de vie. That same year, Helmut Wilderer won his first medals at the renowned Destillata competition in Austria. The most recent evidence of his attention to detail was rewarded with top honors at the 2004 World Spirits Awards.
Today, the fine distillates from Wilderer have numerous fans around the globe.

The family business is now run by his son.
