Culinary Summer Finland
Culinary Summer in the exclusive Norppa Majat Cottages, a 7-day culinary outdoor adventure in the heart of the spectacular forest and island landscapes of the Saimaa Lake District with its 13,000 islands spread over 4,300 square kilometres of water, approximately 35 kilometres south-west of the small town of Savonlinna, on the 61st parallel in south-eastern Finland.

Life in the forest and by the water
Over open wood fires, we celebrate freshwater fish caught by ourselves, such as pike, trout, whitefish (renken), perch, ide and crayfish, as well as elk, reindeer, capercaillie, wood pigeons, wild boar and mallards from the seemingly endless surrounding birch, pine and larch forests. Breakfast is served in the great outdoors, with fresh fruit, Finnish fish and forest berry specialities, eggs cooked over a wood fire, coffee, tea, juice and, of course, any individual requests from guests. All lunches and dinners are authentically prepared over open birch and pine wood fires in the ‘traditional Finnish outdoor kitchen’.
Nature's pantry
We live mainly off the gifts of nature – prepared over an open fire. The forest provides us with game such as elk, white-tailed deer, pigeons and ducks, as well as mushrooms, blueberries and cranberries. The lake provides us with fish such as pike, trout, perch, whitefish and crayfish. We buy meat and vegetables from the farmers at the market.

Camp accommodation
Each of our five exclusively furnished cabins has its own jetty, a motorboat, a rowing boat and a sun deck. None of the cabins can be seen from any other cabin. For physical regeneration, each camp cabin traditionally has its own wood-fired Finnish outdoor forest sauna and an indoor sauna, both with direct access to the lake. Full, free internet access is available throughout the camp and on the water.

Authentically Finnish
An essential part of Finnish culture is the sauna, which promotes health and cleanses the body and mind. Every wooden cabin in our camps has its own electric indoor sauna and a traditional wood-fired outdoor forest sauna.
All saunas are available at any time of the day or night, and birch and pine wood is also available in every cabin. Traditionally, saunas in Finland are used in swimwear. During the infusions, blood circulation in the skin is stimulated by beating it with freshly cut green birch branches (vihtoja).
During the camps, we also celebrate the use of the rare smoke sauna (savu sauna), which has a particularly positive effect on the skin. Each sauna hut has direct access to the lake, so you can walk comfortably across the forest floor into the refreshing water... You can get out of the water via a ladder onto the private jetty and sunbathing platform.
Deceleration
We organise wilderness walks, island and bay boat hopping through beautiful lake landscapes and spectacular nature. Kayaks and SUP boards are available for daily use. The forests are full of mushrooms, blueberries and lingonberries.

crayfish feast
One of the highlights of our summer camps is catching crayfish ourselves. We celebrate the traditional crayfish festival ‘Rapujuhla’, which brings Finnish families and friends together around the table in summer to celebrate in style.ants.
