In addition to authentic and stylish overnight stays opposite the disused 12th-century church, we showcase outdoor culinary techniques in the private "fire pit" and two barns, local cow's milk cheese from the local cheese factory of cheesemaker Ishtvan Varga, and the "spirit" of Cund as a Transylvanian-Saxon village with almost 900 years of history. Chef Jonas Schäfer, with his restaurant Valea Verde located in the village, offers authentic regional cuisine, from traditional ciorba soup and truffle pasta to a seven-course gourmet menu and a hand-picked national and international wine list to suit every taste and requirement

Old Vicarage Cund

We renovated the Old Vicarage of Cund over three years with meticulous attention to detail, preserving the style of the past century and awakening it from its slumber in 2023. In addition to authentic and stylish overnight stays opposite the disused 13th-century church, we showcase outdoor culinary techniques, local cow's milk cheese, and the "spirit" of Cund as a Transylvanian-Saxon village with almost 800 years of history in the private "fireplace" and the two barns.

In his "Manufactura de Branza" (cow's milk cheese factory), our direct neighbor, friend and partner Ishtvan Varga produces his great, organic-certified hard and mountain cheeses

We've converted the basement of our "Old Vicarage" into a heated event space. There, we host cream cheese seminars with Ishtvan and many other authentic culinary extravaganzas, including exclusive rentals.

The conversion of the former vicarage barn into a place for authentic culinary encounters, tastings, conferences, and continuing education for privately interested or professionally engaged individuals is "in progress" and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

Accommodations

Get a first glimpse of the original interior of the Old Vicarage here. All floors, ceilings, and furniture are handcrafted from oak from the surrounding forests in Cund's carpentry workshop. In addition to central gas heating, each room features a tiled stove, traditionally fired and painted by hand in Medias. The Old Rectory offers free Wi-Fi in the rooms and outdoors. All rooms are equipped with internet TV and a coffee/espresso machine. Furthermore, the Old Rectory guarantees an uninterrupted power supply. In 25 expressive, wood-framed images, the empathetic German photographer Johannes Arlt has captured life and nature in and around Cund.
