Valea Verde Restaurant

"by Jonas Schäfer"

In our "Transylvania Wine & Truffle Camps," we combine our passion for nature with the superb cuisine of our friend, partner, and chef Jonas Schäfer , and authentic preparations of regional specialties over open wood fires paired with great wines from Transylvania, various wine-growing regions of Romania, and international wines.

a journey through time

Valea Verde Resort

Valea Verde Resort Located in the picturesque village of Cund, in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, "das Camp" is a place where German, Romanian, and Hungarian traditions have blended for centuries. Soft, clear air, ancient forests, valleys, and winding paths surround this culinary retreat, created by our partner, friend, and chef Jonas Schäfer and his wife Ulrike, and shaped by him and his team. Time seems to have stood still long ago.

Regional authenticity

Regional authenticity

In this relaxing yet inspiring environment, we celebrate culinary authenticity, regionality, and the art of sustainable living. Jonas Schäfer's exquisite cuisine and open wood-fired cooking are just as much a part of the camp as truffle hunting in expansive forests, donkey trekking, chamber music, horse-drawn carriages, biodiversity, campfires, silence, solitude, and an impressive, hand-picked selection of regional and international wines.

Scattered Hotel

Hotel Diffuso

The inspiration for the "Valea Verde" resort is the Italian concept of the "albergo diffuso," or "scattered hotel," which has revived many abandoned villages in Italy. The renowned British travel magazine "Conde Nast Traveler" aptly described this concept: "The concept of the albergo diffuso allows you to discover traditions in a globalized world. It's like being given the key to a village community!" We are implementing this concept in Cund by renovating traditional farmhouses, preserving their historic charm and combining them with modern comforts.

Accommodations

Overnight stays during the "Culinary Wine & Truffle Camp" are in authentically simple, romantically furnished rooms and apartments of the "Valea Verde Retreat" – all equipped with en-suite bathrooms. The rural accommodations are spread across old farms and houses, lovingly restored in the Hungarian-Romanian style, throughout the village of Cund, with its 130 residents. Farms, houses, stables, and gardens bear witness to the 850-year history of the Transylvanian Saxons. The wildly idyllic village scene is characterized by horse-drawn carriages and free-roaming geese, ducks, chickens, dogs, and herds of goats, sheep, and cows. The charismatic atmosphere of the village and its warmly furnished accommodations grounds, slows down, and leads guests back to their roots.

Stay overnight in the Old Rectory

You will stay in the authentically and stylishly renovated "Old Rectory" in Cund, directly opposite the disused church from the 12th century, or in the Transylvanian-Saxon courtyards and apartments of the Valea Verdes Resort as part of the idyllic village community
