Since 2013, we have been organizing this extraordinary weekend in the wild and romantic hills of Transylvania with our partner, friend, and owner of the Valea Verde Resort in picturesque Cund, Jonas Schäfer, and his wife Ulrike. We are very proud that so many people from diverse cultures and all over the world now find their way to Transylvania. To ensure that all nationalities can enjoy this authentic culinary delight and participate in the workshops, we are holding this weekend in English.

In the secluded setting of the rolling hills of Transylvania in the tiny village of Cund, the Valea Verde will welcome you with its own unique charm! In restored old farmhouses you will find cozy, rustic and characterful accommodation – a place where finding true values ​​and reconnecting with one's senses might be easier than in other places.

On this special weekend we are seeking to address and spoil all your senses with a truly special rural country-side experience, lavish multi-course menus prepared using fantastic local produce paired with amazing wines and several enlightening culinary workshops. The object of the weekend is to celebrate the art of fine dining, drink fine wines and to deepen our knowledge through small workshops about several culinary topics – and last but not least to wholeheartedly embracing life in an inspiring and relaxed setting among old and new friends. Jonas & Ulrike Schäfer's highly acclaimed Valea Verde restaurant & retreat is the venue for this weekend program. Together with their experienced team, we will be preparing over 30 different exciting and inspiring dishes during the course of 42 hours!

Overnight stays during the "Gourmet Weekend" are in authentically simple, romantically furnished rooms and apartments of the "Valea Verde Retreat" – all equipped with en-suite bathrooms. The rural accommodations are spread across old farms and houses, lovingly restored in the Hungarian-Romanian style, throughout the village of Cund, with its 130 inhabitants. Farms, houses, stables, and gardens bear witness to the 850-year history of the Transylvanian Saxons. The wildly idyllic village scene is characterized by horse-drawn carriages and free-roaming geese, ducks, chickens, dogs, herds of goats, sheep, and cows. The charismatic atmosphere of the village and the soul of the "Valea Verde," created with passion since 2003 by "bon vivant" Jonas Schäfer and his wife Ulrike, with its warm-hearted accommodations, ground you, slow you down, and lead you back to your roots.

The inspiration for the "Valea Verde" resort is the Italian concept of the "albergo diffuso," or "scattered hotel," which has revived many abandoned villages in Italy. The renowned British travel magazine "Conde Nast Traveler" aptly described the idea behind this concept: "The concept of the albergo diffuso allows the discovery of traditions in a globalized world. It's like being given the key to a village community!" We strive to apply this concept to Cund by renovating traditional farmhouses, preserving their historic charm and combining them with modern comforts.
