CULINARY FISHING FINLAND … authentic culinary lockdown in the solitude and silence of water and forests
“Culinary Fishing”, a 7-day culinary outdoor experience in the heart of the forest and island landscapes of the Saimaa Lake District with its 13,000 islands, about 35 km south of the small town of Savonlinna, on Finland's 61st parallel
In our "Fishing Camp" on a small peninsula in the fish-rich Saimaa Lakes, located directly on the water, we stage an authentic culinary fishing and wilderness experience in our high-quality, traditional Finnish wooden huts, the seal huts (Norppa-Majat, see menu item "Accommodation Fishing Camp"). Over open wood fires, we celebrate freshwater fish we've caught ourselves, such as pike, trout, whitefish , perch, ide , and crayfish, as well as elk, reindeer, capercaillie, wood pigeons, young boar, and mallards from the surrounding seemingly endless birch, pine, and larch forests. Authentic preparations of wild salmon and vendace are part of the culinary choreography, as are Black Angus cuts (US grain fed/dry aged). Top international wines from select family wineries from the "forest wine cellar" accompany the daily authentic culinary program. A campfire workshop focuses on the distillation of vodka and gin .
Fishing is available in an area of 4,370 km², using hand-held rods (spinners, plugs, spinners, jigs, or flies) right from the shore or from our own rowboats and motorboats (4 HP outboards) for trolling and setting traditional perch and crayfish traps. Each of our cabins has its own jetty, two boats, and a sundeck.
For non-anglers, but of course also for all participants, we offer introductory workshops on spin and fly fishing, wilderness walks, kayak tours, SUP boards, island & bay boat hopping as well as daily outdoor cooking workshops .
For physical regeneration, each camp cabin traditionally has its own wood-fired Finnish outdoor forest sauna and an indoor sauna , both with direct access to the lake. (See menu item "Sauna Fishing Camp")
All contents and services described above are included in the “all inclusive” price of the trip without exception.
This trip is accompanied and staged by the international “wine & food edutainer” and certified sport fisherman Roland Birr (oenologist)
2,995 € per person all inclusive, all food & drinks unlimited, overnight stays, sauna, motor and rowing boat, complete fishing equipment, fishing licenses & workshops, airport transfer Savonlinna
- own arrival
We would also be happy to coordinate and book flights according to your wishes and specifications.
We deliberately keep group sizes small, max. 10 participants per group

Accommodation and sauna at the Fishing Camp
Fully equipped traditional wooden cabins directly on the water with private jetty and boat as well as an indoor sauna and an outdoor sauna as is appropriate for Finland
Accommodations
Accommodation is traditional Finnish, in private, fully equipped wooden cabins (Seal Cabins/Norppa Majat) right on the water in the solitude of the forest. Absolute silence 24/7.
Not a hotel or B&B! The wooden cabins are simple, clean, and authentic, each with its own kitchen, outdoor barbecue hut, fireplace, shower, indoor toilet , and traditional outdoor toilet .
Each cabin has an indoor sauna and a traditional wood-fired outdoor forest sauna with direct access to the lake. Each cabin has access to a rowboat and a motorboat (4 HP outboard motor), each with its own dock and sunbathing area with access to the water. Free internet access is available throughout the fishing camp and on the water.
Breakfast is served outdoors, featuring fresh fruit, Finnish fish and wild berry specialties, eggs cooked over a wood fire, coffee, tea, juice, and, of course, individual guest requests. All lunches and dinners are authentically prepared over open birch and pine fires in the "traditional Finnish outdoor kitchen."
Sauna Fishing Camp
An essential part of Finnish culture is the sauna, a practice used to promote health and cleanse the body and mind. Each wooden cabin in our fishing camp has its own electric indoor sauna and a traditional wood-fired outdoor forest sauna .
All saunas are available 24/7, and each cabin is equipped with ample birch and pinewood. Traditionally, sauna use in Finland is done in swimwear. During the infusions, blood circulation is stimulated by beating the skin with freshly cut, green birch twigs (vihtoja).
During "Culinary Fishing," we also celebrate the use of the rare smoke sauna (Savu Sauna), which has a particularly positive effect on the skin. Each sauna hut has direct access to the lake , allowing you to comfortably step across the forest floor into the refreshing water. Exiting the water is via a ladder onto the private pier and sunbathing deck .
